We cannot help but think of the things that could have gone wrong in this situation. The neighbor might not have even been home to find the kittens, and then who knows what would have happened had they been left outside at night, defenseless, for hours and hours. Really, we can only say thank goodness that things worked out the way that they did, and that this person was kind enough to take them in and take care of them so lovingly and diligently.

We needed this one year update, we really did. Every once in a while, this story would pop up in our heads, and we would wonder about what happened to these cuties. Although, we have to say that we were not concerned. We knew, from the way that this story started, that these kitties were in amazing hands, and that they would never be left out, defenseless, ever again. This update was exactly how we wanted to start the new year - with pawsitivity and true hope for humanity.

Taking care of newborn kittens is a lot of work. Ask any momma cat. The kittens need to be taught all kinds of things. The kittens need to be taught how to drink water - without it getting up their nose. They have to learn how to communicate with humans properly - in a way that gets them everything that they want. They need to be fed consistently, they need to be doted on, and they need to be taught how to cause chaos in the right ways. It's a lot of work. And if you accidentally end up with a handful of kittens, however that happens, with the momma cat nowhere to be found, it would be an impossible task to take care of them, especially without experience.
Of course, the solution in moments like these is taking the kittens to a shelter or to a vet - to an appropriate place where they can be taken care of. The answer is not ding-dong-ditching them on your neighbor's doorstep. Thankfully, this neighbor rescued the kittens, took them in, fed them every two hours the way a momma cat would have. And in the end, the kittens were healthy and happy and were given the forever homes that they deserve. But it might not have gone that way. It might have gone wrong. Do the right thing in a situation like this. Don't count on luck.
